Built to Meet Kendal Floral’s Blooming Business

Design-Build Cooler Renovation Creates Spaces for Floral Business’ Growing Needs

Kendal Floral’s merchandising division provides the flowers in bundles and bouquets for over 180 Costco Warehouses. As Kendal’s reputation for delivering incredibly fresh blooms grew, so did the need to expand production capacity.

Kendal found the right building and location in Gilroy, California. They contracted Fisher Construction Group to renovate the durable concrete tilt-up structure. Building out the cooler rooms needed for processing and shipping millions of cut flowers and greenery every month.

Within the existing building, fisher built specific refrigerated areas needed for Kendal Floral merchandising services. A large floral cooler, a production area, and a large loading dock for staging and shipping prepared bouquets.

By lining the existing warehouse with 23’ insulated metal panels, Fisher’s thermal team built the spaces for each defined use. Considered a renewable building material, IMPs provide an exceptionally high insulation rating. As a result, make it possible to cost-effectively maintain the cool environment created by the new refrigeration system.

Known for their expertise in building refrigerated warehouses and retrofitting existing buildings, Fisher managed the entire project from demolition of the existing interiors through completion. Along with installation of the cooled areas, Fisher also built new employee support areas, conference rooms, and offices and managed the installation of the refrigeration system as well as the mechanical, electrical and fire suppression upgrades−meeting CalGreen Standards.

The renovation required a tight schedule to enable Kendal to meet the needs of their customers. Despite disruptions caused by the California wildfires, Fisher delivered a top-notch production facility for Kendal’s blooming business.
