Strengthen the Food Supply Chain Throughout Southern Alberta

This 250,000 SF ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) distribution center was built simultaneously with McCain Foods to facilitate the new plants storing and shipping needs. It also marks Fisher’s 4th facility build with NewCold.

Built on a 41-acre site in Coaldale, Alberta, the facility significant public and local support with the Government of Alberta investing $2.1 million through its Investment and Growth Fund to secure NewCold’s commitment to the region.

The 131’ tall ASRS high-bay freezer is taller than the Statue of Liberty and stands the length of 1.5 football fields, containing 14.5 million cubic feet of frozen storage. With 3.4 million cubic foot dispatch area, this facility will store flash-frozen products shipped from McCain Foods’ Coaldale location, holding them at -4°F (-20°C) until ready for distribution across Southern Alberta and beyond. The facility utilizes NewColds signature Fire prevention system, managed through a low-oxygen environment. Eliminating the need for traditional fire suppression systems while improving food preservation.

The two-story, 16,000 SF office was designed using NewCold’s new brand standards, featuring high-end Dutch flooring, open-concept layouts, passenger elevator, large curtain walls to maximize natural light, and electric AHUs that support the company’s energy-efficient goals.

The facility includes 13 dock positions, and 46,000 SF dispatch center that features 1 mile of conveyors and a half-mile of interior monorail systems, enabling full ATU to ASRS integration. Ambient dock vestibules are equipped with dehumidification systems to ensure controlled transitions between cold and ambient environments. Facility also includes a 30,000 SF rail dock equipped with two railcar positions, and dehumidifiers.
