Continuing a Long-Standing Partnership of Proven Success
Fisher Construction Group proudly delivered the third and final phase of the US Cold storage facility in Sacramento’s McClellan Park in California—marking our 7th project with US Cold. This milestone project stands as a testament to our long-standing partnership, and our commitment to exceeding client expectations through innovation, flexibility, and craftsmanship.
The project added a massive 7.6 million cubic feet of temperature-controlled space. Inside, the facility includes 26,500 pallet positions, supported by a Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking system with aisle widths as tight as 76 inches.
This specialized system, guided by embedded wire navigation, allows turret truck operations to reach new levels of efficiency and vertical storage, with rack tops reaching 47’. Central to the operation is a highly complex conveyor automation system, seamlessly integrated with (2) automated transfer cars (T-cars). These T-cars glide along tracks across the freezer’s width, collecting pallets from the conveyor system and routing them to one of 18 truck dock positions.
A critical requirement for both wire-guided turret trucks and the automated T-car system was the need for a super-flat floor slab. Fisher executed 22 precision concrete pours, producing an 11” thick freezer slab with a floor flatness rating of Fmin100.
Building in Sacramento County also presented its own unique challenges with intense regulatory scrutiny, and high standards in ADA compliance, seismic and structural safety, and adherence to the California Building Code. Fisher worked proactively with officials at every stage, ensuring all code and compliance requirements were not only met but carefully documented and approved throughout the process.
Fisher was also able to accommodate an additional $3M in added scope, all of which was absorbed within the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), with no added general contractor markup. A reflection of the trust and collaboration shared between Fisher and US Cold.
