Sustainability for a New Facility & the Old
Breaking Ground on a Complex Infrastructure
When Simplot hired Fisher to design and build their 94-acre new facility in Moses Lake, sustainability and efficiency were at the forefront of planning. With an existing plant located roughly two miles away, and the new processing plant being built, developing a facility that could efficiently process the millions of gallons of wastewater daily while incorporating advanced filtration and clarification technologies was a necessity.
The pre-treatment facility was designed with meticulous planning, incorporating several key structures and processing units, designed to remove suspended solids, oils, and grease from incoming wastewater, and filter out contaminants at the molecular level.
The facility was engineered to handle high volumes of wastewater with precision and reliability. At its core were seven tanks, collectively capable of holding 8.47 million gallons of treated and untreated water. The system also included four Reverse Osmosis (RO) Skids, ensuring the highest level of water purity by removing dissolved salts and contaminants, and four Ultrafiltration (UF) Membrane Bioreactor Filters to provide an advanced level of filtration to meet environmental compliance standards.
An RO water collection tank plays a crucial role in water reuse and sustainability. It collects wastewater from the Rainier plant/highbay freezer and the existing Moses Lake Simplot facility roughly two miles away. After treatment, the purified RO water is repurposed for process water in processing equipment at both locations.
