AGILE COLD STORAGE
Project Description
Client: Agile Cold Storage
Facility Type: Automated Storage Retrieval System (ASRS) | Distribution Expansion
Location: Gainesville, Georgia
Total Size: 118,475 SF Facility
With Frozen Food Demand On The Rise
An Expansion Brings Their Building to New Heights
During the pandemic, consumers learned that buying in bulk can really pay off, especially with frozen foods and sales skyrocketed. Even though the pandemic has come to an end, consumers are still purchasing frozen foods at an increasing rate, putting strain on the cold storage supply chain.
Agile saw the need and took cold storage to new heights with their 125-foot tall, 118,475 SF automated storage retrieval system (ASRS) expansion to their Gainesville facility.
An ASRS structure provides high-density storage, with systems that are operating at peak efficiency, allowing Agile to maximize overall distribution volumes. Therefore being able to meet their clients cold storage and distribution needs.
Their state-of-the-art system uses software controlled robotic six stacker cranes and pallet moles to store, relocate, and retrieve product throughout it’s -10° cold storage warehouse.
However, this project didn’t come without its execution challenges for the Fisher team. The site posed unique challenges with the existing slope. Rock blasting was required along with lime and cement treatment to meet compaction requirements for the building pad. Prior to starting the building pad, 60’ of material fill was required at the corner of the building site.
Additionally, the project required a 15’ shoring wall 20’ away from the existing building in order to transition from the finished floor of the existing building to the new ASRS expansion. Also unique to this project, the finish floor of the ASRS sits 12’ below the dock finish floor, requiring a shoring wall between the two new structures.
