Wage Range

     $22/hr to $32/hr depending on skills, experience, and willingness to travel

Essential Functions

Civil Laborers are classified in 3 levels according to their skills and experience. The following is representative of the tasks performed by civil laborers on construction sites. Civil laborers may perform some or all of the following tasks, depending upon which level they are assigned.

  • Brush cutting, clearing, and grubbing
  • Hand digging, potholing and leveling
  • Landscaping
  • Laying and bedding of pipe
  • Operating a GPS laser to shoot grades or install pipe
  • Operating various power equipment such as jumping jack or plate compactor, demo saw, jackhammer
  • General site cleanup, empty trash cans, keep job trailer and tool trailer clean and orderly

Peripheral Functions

  • Dry stack walls
  • Water truck operation
  • Landscaping
  • Operate heavy equipment (if trained)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Has a positive attitude, initiative and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to maintain a good attendance record.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools commonly employed on construction sites.
  • Ability to operate equipment and machinery commonly employed on construction sites, when applicable.
  • Knowledge of the safety requirements for a construction site.


  • Experience in the construction industry in a hands-on capacity.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing are all required on a constant basis.
  • Lifting of objects up to 25 pounds is frequent, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • There is frequent pushing, pulling and dragging of objects.

Working Conditions

  • Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors in all weather conditions. Workers are exposed to dust and dirt common to construction sites.
