The design / build project process is about meeting needs and solving problems. From the site selection to the timeline, the market economy played a big role in the Americold project.Innovative solutions were required throughout the project, starting early in the process when the Fisher team requested and was able to transfer the stormwater certificate of the previous property owner, saving 60-90 days as would have been required with a new submittal.

Beyond the cost of construction, the greatest ongoing investment for a facility such as Americold is energy. Using Revit, a 3-D building modeling program (BIM), Fisher’s design team and PSM Engineers simulated the life-cycle of the building from construction through facility operation. The team considered the value of all energy efficiencies, both immediate as well as over the life of the facility.
Americold’s energy consumption was reduced through: LED lighting; R-51 insulated metal panels and an R-60 roof on the freezer; energy efficient vertical dock lifts and warehouse traffic doors; computer control system with evaporator fan VFD’s; and with something as simple as changing the roof color from black to white.
By reducing the building’s carbon footprint through lower energy consumption the entire community benefits. The project’s commitment to saving energy resulted in Americold qualifying for $825,000 in energy credits.
